About Alter Ego Gallery

Welcome to Alter Ego Gallery – we’re mostly online but we have concessions in beautiful, bustling Battle, and the glorious bohemian coastal town of Hastings in East Sussex.  You can view and buy our work here on our website and at the Sussex Framing Centre outlets in both towns but make sure to check the whereabouts of a specific piece before you travel.

Most of our artists are based regionally or locally although many exhibit throughout the UK and internationally. Our diverse paintings, drawings, prints and ceramics are original and affordable, and we also have a small  selection of limited edition giclee prints by our own artists. Prices for original art start at an incredible £20, rising to £1000. Gift Vouchers are available for a perfectly unique gift and we can manage a Wish List for you if you have a number of contributors to your special something.

It is possible to enjoy and collect original art without breaking the bank and we’re happy to help you to start or build on your collection. If you would like to reserve a particular piece for closer inspection, we’ll be happy to hold it for you for a couple of days – please just email us on info@alteregogallery.co.uk with your details.

Why not follow us on Facebook Instagram and Twitter for sneak peeks of what’s in store.

About Battle

Battle is an amazingly beautiful and historic town, bustling with independent shops, restaurants, pubs and places of interest. There’s a great selection of fashion boutiques, craft shops, book shop, shoe shops, jewellers, lifestyle and home shops, antique shops, wine shops, gift shops – quite literally Battle has ‘the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker’ and much more. All contributing to Lonely Planet’s view that Battle is one of the “Ten Hidden Gems of Europe”.

Don’t miss the great work by regional artists at the Sussex Framing Centre, curated by us here at Alter-Ego Gallery. Or  the famous Battle Abbey and battleground of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 – because the Battle of Hastings was actually fought in Battle, not Hastings… Battle Museum has actual artefacts from the 1066 battlefield.

Restaurants abound serving British, Thai, Italian, Indian, Chinese and there are lots of delis, tea-rooms, coffee shops and bakeries. There are plenty of pubs with beer gardens in summer, roaring log fires in winter, good food and live music all year round. Supergroup Keane have practically written an entire album, their 5th No 1 album Strangeland (check out the Keane Trail, a geographical tour of Strangeland), about the town and English Heritage reckons Battle Abbey is No2 in their Top Ten Must See National Treasures.

Check out this fun 3-minute film of Battle with its indie shops, pubs and restaurants, the characters who run them and some of the town’s festivities.  The townsfolk are partial to dressing up as you’ll see!  www.Vimeo.com/KeaneTrail/visit-battle

About Hastings

There’s never a dull moment in Hastings, whatever time of year you visit.

You’ll find us in the America Ground district and there’s plenty to see and do while you’re there. The RIBA award winning pier is a must, as are the wonderful independent shops selling art, homewares, records, wine, books, wholefoods, musical instruments. There’s an abundance of indie places to eat and drink for whatever mood you’re in. The True Crime Museum is just around the corner and the world’s largest seller of BMX bikes, Source BMX, has a bike and skateboard park at White Rock.

Elsewhere in Hastings, take a lift up the East Hill or a stroll around the old town. Don’t miss the fabulous exhibitions at the award-winning Hastings Contemporary Gallery and the freshest of fish landing from the world’s largest land-launched fishing fleet. There are far too many festivals to mention individually but Jack in the Green and the Seafood & Wine festivals are personal favourites.
